Local Groups in Pitlochry
One of Pitlochry’s real strengths as a town is that it has a large number of volunteer groups and organisations, all working for the good of the town each has its own particular area of specialism. Every group contributes something to the town in some way or another, working together, to help to make Pitlochry what it is today, a successful vibrant highland town.
Pitlochry in Bloom is run by a strong team of volunteers which raises over £20,000 each year for the town’s world famous flower displays. This year 2007, Pitlochry was presented with a Royal Horticultural Society Gold award for its flowers, gardens, hanging baskets, wild life garden and the overall floral display in the town. Each year we see many many visitors taking photographs of the flowers. Pitlochry in Bloom also gains the town much publicity as the flowers are often featured in magazines and newspapers. Pitlochry is lucky to have such a strong dedicated team of people who contribute significantly to the physical beauty of the town to be enjoyed by visitors and residents alike.
Another voluntary organisation is the Pitlochry Major Events group, which attracts and organises in one major event each year to the town. This includes hosting two British Pipe Band Championships each bringing in over 100 pipe bands and 15,000+ spectators. It has also played host to the Massed Canadian pipes and drums and organised a mini tattoo. These events attract hundreds of visitors from far and wide each year and create a real festive atmosphere in the area.
Pitlochry has hosted the Enchanted Forest a light and sound extravaganza for the past three years attracting thousands of visitors to the area and forming part of the Pitlochry Autumn Festival organised by yet another local group.
