What's On In Pitlochry?Find Out What Is On When You Are Visiting
Highland Perthshire is arguably one of the most beautiful parts of Scotland with many lochs, rivers, glens and high hills forming its majestic highland landscape. What sets the area apart from other areas of Scotland is that the bottoms of the glens are rich and fertile with many magnificent trees and farmland. By contrast the tops of the glens lead to rugged highland hilltops covered in heather and full of wild life that include the red deer, capercaillie, grouse, badger, golden eagle to name a few.
Pitlochry is located at the very heart of Highland Perthshire and is ideally located to explore the surrounding area with it’s variety of stunning landscapes and range of activities and places of interest.
Highland Perthshire comprises the historic town of Dunkeld 13 miles to the south of Pitlochry, Aberfeldy 14 miles to its southwest and 6 miles further the village of Kenmore on the eastern tip of Loch Tay.
The wildness of Rannoch is 20 miles to the west in a remote and sparsely populated area of lochs and granite, upland moors all nestling under Schiehallion, 'The Fairy Mountain'. A further 16 miles on the 'Road to the Isles' is Rannoch Station where it is possible to catch the train along the West Highland Line, to Mallaig and back, one of the most scenic railway trips anywhere in Europe.
A further 7 miles to the north are the wild glens and mountains around Blair Atholl, the southern edge of the Cairngorm massif that is the Cairngorm National Park today. Blair Castle is the ancient home of the Dukes and Earls of Atholl and the home of Europe’s only private army, the Atholl Highlanders
